Alameda Creek Fish Passage Improvements Program Ribbon Cutting Ceremony

The Alameda County Water District is pleased to announce the completion of the Lower Alameda Creek Fish Passage Improvements Program after more than two decades of coordination, planning and construction of seven fish passage and water supply projects. A ribbon cutting ceremony was hosted on April 25, 2022, by ACWD to celebrate this program that represents our commitment to balancing the water supply needs of the people of Fremont, Newark and Union City while protecting the environment and wildlife. The event featured special guest speakers from partnering agencies, government officials and stakeholders. Guests also toured the completed fish passage facility featuring state-of-the-art fish screens and ladders.

ACWD Receives 2022 Clair A. Hill Water Agency Award for Excellence

The Alameda County Water District has been awarded the prestigious Clair A. Hill Water Agency Award for Excellence from the Association of California Water Agencies for ACWD’s Alameda Creek Fish Passage Improvements Program.  

The award-winning program is comprised of seven fish passage and water supply projects constructed over two decades along Alameda Creek in Fremont. Meeting the challenge of addressing fish migration and water supply woes, the program and its two innovative fish ladders open up Lower Alameda Creek, allowing migratory fish to bypass obstacles in place since the early 1970s.

As a Clair A. Hill Award recipient, ACWD also receives a $5,000 scholarship to be awarded to a deserving student the following year.
