ACWD’s comprehensive water conservation program has been in place since 1977. The District recognizes that California's water supply will always be a concern, and has included conservation as a significant component of its Integrated Resource Plan (IRP). This plan takes into consideration all essential elements of water supply management to ensure that the District can provide a reliable source of water for its service area. Along with new supply side alternatives, conservation plays a large part in the water supply picture under the IRP. The District’s strategy for managing water supplies strives for no more than a 10% shortage in severely dry years. In addition, ACWD is a signatory to the Memorandum of Understanding between urban water districts throughout the State of California, and a member of the California Urban Water Conservation Council (CUWCC). Through the CUWCC, ACWD joins a statewide partnership of urban water agencies, public interest organizations and private entities to better plan and manage California's water resources. ACWD is committed to encouraging conservation for existing homes, businesses and landscapes, but we are also committed to ensuring that new development in our service area is built with the latest water use efficiency measures.
